Ascot Royal Procession
Just like Oysters are to Champagne and Strawberries are to Cream……then the Ascot Royal Procession is to Royal Ascot.
Each day of the Royal Meeting sees the procession starting from the end of the racecourse near the straight one mile start and taking the carriages, their horsemen and the dignitaries of the Royal Family past the enclosures where the crowds are able to wave and take pictures.
The Queen of course is the main attraction and will of course be at the meeting at some point during the week. We are not sure which days due to other committments but we can be sure to see her on Gold Cup day and hopefully during the whole meeting.
The tradition of the royal procession has been laid down for many years and is part and parcel of the television coverage from the BBC.
In 1825, the Royal Procession as an annual tradition began. The King, leading four other
coaches with members of the Royal party, drove up the centre of the racecourse in front of the
crowds and this has continued to the present day.
There will be a fantastic new initiative at Royal Ascot this year in 2010 as trumpeters will be used for the first time to welcome back the winning horse after the feature race on each day of the festival.
Betting on the colour of the Queen’s hat on Gold Cup Day is available from any bookmaker worth his salt. Just be wary of believing all the post arrival hype about leaks from the Palace and betting coups being landed by palace insiders.
It’s a novelty betting market and really caters for the more general public fun betttors, and by the way take no notice of the stories of betting coups and bookies saying “we were hit for hundreds of thousands!” this sort of story is becoming a Royal Ascot fairtale in itself!
If you have to have a bet on the colour of the Queens hat then make it a FREE BET

Dress Code for Royal Ascot – Smart Elegance
Royal Ascot Dress Code
The words Royal Ascot and Dress Code are synonymous with toffs, upper class twits and the old school tie brigade.
Well that used to be the case, but not anymore. Although Ascot is still very much steeped in it’s Royal Traditions it is a much more cosmopolitan event that when Viscount Churchill was in charge of the invitation list.
It was said that the Viscount used to vet any application and place them into 3 seperate categories Certainly, Perhaps and Cetrtainly Not.
As you see from that beautiful couple in the main image. The term Royal Ascot Dress Code is now taken as an opportunity to go to one of the events of the year and pamper yourself just a little bit. Of course we guys wear suits when going to weddings but not often do we have the chance to dress up in morning suit and top hat like in bygone days and now Royal Ascot is a place to really step out, look smart and have a great time.
Just look at the couple above, now i am sure that they were probably going to the royal enclosure (not certain) but probably.
And how about this fantastic couple below. Dont you just love the way in which they have colour cordinated their outfits with the brown and pink styles.
So dont get hung up on the formal side of Ascot, treat it as a day to treasure where dressing UP is the name of the game and having fun just comes along with it.
We have added special page for Gents Dress Code and for Ladies Dress Code where you can check out the official rules for each area of the course including The Royal Enclosure, The Main Grandstand and The Silver Ring.
Whatever you wear, Whichever area of the track you are going to just have a great day out.

Royal Ascot Tips and Tote Bets
Hi there and if you know me then you probably already follow me on Twitter under the Longshot King.
I wanted to write this Royal Ascot Tips article to let you know about my daily video tips which i will
be doing each day during the meeting at Royal Ascot.
The easiest way to get these is by making sure you follow me on Twitter or make sure to come back to
the site each day and check out the featured videos section.
So how can we try and bet at Royal Ascot and make it both fun and profitable?
Well their are a few bets which i think are great fun for the novice punter and the more experienced alike.
Both of these are Tote bets whioch you can place at a Tote betting window on course or in your local betting
shop and even over the web if you have an account.
The first bet I want to touch on is the Tote Placepot Bet and this is a great fun bet which can win you big
returns for a relatively small stake especially if you are a novice punter.
This bet gives you an interest in each race and if you are lucky will build up to a very exciting time if you
can get the first 5 horses placed.
The aim of the tote placepot bet is simple.
You need to pick a horse in each of the first six races and that horse needas to come in the first three….
or first 4 if it is a handicap race with more than 16 runners.
Now you see i mentioned ‘pick a horse in each of the first six races”
Well to give yourself a better chance of winning you should maybe pick more than one horse, especially at Ascot where the number of runners in each race is so big.
So let me give you a couple of examples:
2 x 2 x 3 x 3 x 1 x 2 = 72 lines or 72 bets
3 x 1 x 2 x 1 x 2 x 1 = 12 lines or 12 bets
So you can do a placepot for small stakes with the chance of winning quite decent amounts of money.
Let me show you a screenshot example of a placepot I had recently where I laid out GBP 4 and won GBP 137.80
So on this bet i won 34 times my original four pound stake
Here is another example of a winning Placepot
So on this bet I won 22 times my original GBP 14.40 stake
Here is another example of a winning Placepot
So on this bet I won 39 times my original GBP 6 stake
Here is another example of a winning Placepot
So on this bet I won about 19.5 times my original GBP 19.20 stake
The other fun bet you can do on the tote is something called a Trifecta (As the word TRI implies) you need to find the first second and third in each race (Yes I know, not very easy)
However we can again do a perm, so instead of just picking 3 horses I like to pick four or five.
4 horses = 24 Bets (This means that any 3 from your 4 horses can come first, second or third)
5 horses = 60 Bets (This means that any 3 from your 5 horses can come first, second or third)
It gives you a lot more chance and with many races at Ascot having upwards of 20 runners a Trifecta can pay big dividends for small stakes again.
e.g. With many Trifectas at Royal Ascot probably paying a dividend of GBP 10000 then a four horse perm trifecta for 10 pence (24 x 10 pence =2.40) can win you a possible Grand
Let me show you a screenshot of a successful Tricast I had a few months back.
So this bet returned GBP 1276.80 for just an outlay of GBP 4.80………very nice
So you see, these are a couple of fun bets that you can do for small stakes and possibly big returns.
N.B. NOW THIS IS IMPORTANT!!! Each day during the Ascot Meeting I will be putting up the exact placepot I do each day on the blog here. I am not saying that we will hit one but as you see from above I do have an outstanding record with my placepots because of a system I use (sorry i cannot divulge that but will give you the same selections I bet on and you can choose whether to take my advice or not)
And now to make this a total no brainer. Before you go i would like to give you the chance to get some free punting money. A lot of bookmakers offer incentives for people betting during Royal Ascot week and you check out our FREE BETS section where you can get a series of free GBP 25 bets.
I hope this was a helpful guide for you and if you need any help then just leave me a comment and i’ll reply no problem

Royal Ascot Horse – Proof that Pegasus Could Fly
Hi Guys, you know if you read my racing blogs that I am an absolute fanatic when it comes to horses and horse racing in general but i had to share this incredible photo from last years meeting.
I’ve titled the post “Royal Ascot Horse – Proof that Pegasus Could Fly”
Look at the horse in the blue silks with the dark cap, can you see how the photographer has captured the sheen on the horses coat against the glint of the sun. It makes the horse look like a shining beacon and the blue silks and dark cap seem to blend in with the very dark (I think it’s Black) colour of the horse in the sun light.
Ok this makes the horse look great but if you look closely the horse actually does not have one foot on the ground…..hence the Pegasus quote.
It is very rare to see a picture like this and if you look closely you can see that this horse is just about to put his hind (back) legs down and use his power. You can just visualise it as it is just about to happen.
This image was taken by a photographer named la bete and i think he has captured this so well that i had to share this with you, it is one of the coolest racing images i have seen in a while.

Royal Ascot Dates – Top Races

Royal Ascot week for 2010 will be taking place between the 15th June to the 19th June at ascot Racecourse in Berkshire. During the five days race visitors will be able to see some of the highest class and most competitive racing of the British Flat season.
On Day 1 the highlights of the card include The Kings Stand Stakes which is for the blistering speedsters over 5 furlongs and this is one leg of the Global Sprint Challenge where we should see the likes of Equiana and Kingsgate Native locking horns again. The feature race of Day 1 is the St James Palace Stakes which looks to hold avery strong field including this years 2000 Guineas winner Makfi.
Moving onto Day 2 and well see another classy days racing with the highlight being the Group 1 Princer of Wales stakes and Aiden O’brien will have high hopes of a 1-2 with Rip Van Winkle and Fame and Glory, especially with the latter in great early season form and now no Sea the Stars to contend with.
Rolling into Day 3 and it looks like all eyes will not be on the Ladies but on the young three year old fillies and as i write this it will be interesting if Henry Cecils Aviate will be coming here unbeaten and aclassic winner after taking in the Oaks at Epsom. Of course we cannot get away from the Gold Cup and my hope is just to see Kasbah Bliss take his chance and prove what a top class flat horse he is as well as being one of the best staying hurdlers.
Onto Friday and Day 4 brings with it the buzz of the weekend but in racing terms it means the excitement generated by the renewing of rivalries between Special Duty and Jaqueline Quest……can Cecil’s filly get revenge for the disqualification she suffered in the 1000 Guineas………all will be revealed.
Finally Day 5 brings down the final curtain on the week and everybody will be looking forward to the Golden Jubilee stakes over six furlongs and hopefully the winner is the horse in the picture above “Fleeting Spirit”

Royal Ascot Ladies Day
Part of the fun in the sun is for the girls and boys to get dressed up to the nines in their best dresses, hats, morning suits and other fashion accessories.
Ladies day at Royal Ascot is not a formal day but has just been taken over by…….as Cyndi Lauper would say
“Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”….. and it looks like this is what our girls in the above picture are setting out to do, especially the lady in Blue.
Women from all over the world come to Royal Ascot to show off their fashions and flaunt their own personal styles and all in all Ladies Day is now part and parcel of the whole week.
And all eyes will be on the Queen to see what her choices will be in terms of style and colour.
As last year make sure you look the part girls as again it is the “Face of Ascot” competition where one lucky guy and one lucky girl will be whisked out of the crowd and will be given a professional makeover and model shoot by the company Models 1 before embarking on a year of promoting the Royal Ascot meetings the length and breadth of the country.
So if you are one of those ladies who are planning on going to the races then make sure you look the part. Cool Hat, Stunning Dress, Classy Shoes and don’t forget your makeup bag………you could be The Face Of Ascot 2011.

Royal Ascot Restaurants
I am not really sure you will find anywhere in the Royal Ascot restaurants were you will see the mixture of pickled onions and champagne like the main image here but of course many people who are visiting Royal Ascot make a day of things and take their own picnic hampers…….however if you are looking for the non DIY approach then here is a run down of the course’s dining facilities
Royal Enclosure Dining Options
Royal Enclosure members are offered a selection of dining options. Some of these restaurants may be reserved for a sitting of luncheon whilst others offer you the flexibility to turn up and be served on a first come, first served basis throughout the day.
Due to high demand the restaurants listed below do not always have spaces available if not booked well in advance. If you would prefer a base for the day then it is best to go for a full day Royal Ascot Hospitality Package. Thee packages run between GBP 500 – GBP 1500 dependent upon which area of the course you go to……..or you can go with the pickled onion option!!
Windsor Forest Restaurant
The Windsor Forest is a beautifully intimate dining room with a private bar area accommodating 60 to 70 guests. From the private balcony, situated just past the Winning Post, Windsor Forest guests have a unique opportunity to soak up both the splendour of the Royal Procession and the thrill and excitement of the world’s greatest race meeting.
GBP 734 – GBP 1527 Royal Ascot Corporate Hospitality Package
The Waterside Inn
We are delighted to welcome the culinary legends Michel and Alain Roux to Royal Ascot this year. The father and son team will take over the Panoramic Restaurant, bringing a taste of the Michelin starred Waterside Inn, to the most ardent restaurant connoisseur.
Situated at the very top of the Grandstand, the Panoramic Restaurant commands beautiful far-reaching views overlooking the Racecourse and Windsor Great Park beyond. The Roux’s will create a gastronomic treat that will equal the world class racing on display on the track beneath.
GBP 734 – GBP 1410 Royal Ascot Corporate Hospitality Package
Boujis Trackside Restaurant
London’s award winning exclusive nightspot Boujis will recreate their boutique lounge and club in a luxury marquee during the five days of the Royal Meeting.
The specially commissioned ‘Boujis Trackside’ will feature a private balcony of over 40 meters providing fantastic head-on views of the racing action. Inside guests can enjoy a fine dining experience as well as a uniquely designed bar, delivering the finest cocktails and champagne throughout the day.
The ‘Boujis Trackside’ marquee offers a variety of packages all week, including full hospitality with a superb five course luncheon complemented with carefully selected fine wine; an opulent day lounge package including admission to the Racecourse and use of the lounge and bar area throughout the day; and on Friday 18th June and Saturday 19th June after racing party tickets.
GBP 635 – GBP 999 Royal Ascot Corporate Hospitality Package
Three other glorious restaurants adjacent to the Royal Enclosure are The Carriages, Sandringham and Bessborough restaurants with their own inimitable style.
The Bessborough is renowned for holding The Royal Ascot Fashion Show and therefore is much favoured by the lady racegoers so they can enjoy the whole day including the fashions.
As i mentioned you can choose one of the glorious restaurants to enjoy your day in or you can also pack your own chilled champagne and lunch which is what a lot of people do.
Tickets for Royal Ascot are still on sale
The Ascot racecourse authorities have made every effort in the car parks to provide extra facilities for racegoers who wish to pitch their own mini marquee and do a self service type day with friends and family.
You will see lots of well dressed groups in their top hats and top togs enjoying the whole Ascot experience.
Whatever you choose have a wonderful day.

Royal Ascot First Blog
Callie Moore, a nanny who is based in London, is the Face of Ascot 2010.
She beat Heather Naylor and Susie Sparkes to take the final of the award, which was unveiled live on the BBC on the final day of Royal Ascot, Saturday 20th June. All three women had been racegoers at the meeting earlier in the week when they were picked out by scouts impressed by their beauty, style and personality. The judges for this year’s competition were Jeff Banks, former presenter of The Clothes Show, Trudie Le Marie, fashion editor of the Sunday Express, James Sherwood, BBC’s fashion expert, and Karen Diamond, director of Models 1.
Stunned by her success, Callie, (23) said: “It is amazing. I am completely in shock.”
Jeff Banks, who was one of the judges, commented on the final trio, “They represented three different images and that made it very hard to split them. Callie has a rather old-fashioned appeal. She looks like a model in the style of Margaux Hemingway.”
One of Callie’s first roles was to present the trophy to the winner of Royal Ascot’s final race, the Queen Alexandra Stakes. Over the next 12 months she will be an ambassador of the racecourse, will take part in fashion shoots and build a portfolio of images starting with a professional shoot at the Models 1 agency studios. In turn, these images will be used in marketing material for the rest of the year and she will front the campaign for the 2011 competition.
Callie is the second Face of Ascot winner following Julie Falconer from San Francisco who was the Face of 2009.
