Magnificent 7

The Magnificent Seven page is really a tribute page and I am glad you came and visited this page. If you clicked the link in the menu then i presume you guessed what this was about.

YES!!! Mr Lanfranco Dettori and his incredible feat of riding all 7 winners at Ascot back on the 28th September 1996. It could never be envisaged it would ever happen and you cannot see it happening again.

Enjoy the video below and see how many of these you can remember.

The Magnificent Seven….can you remember them and what actually happened to them???

Winner number 1 was “Wall Street”

A three-year-old when winning the Cumberland Lodge Stakes, this colt only managed to run once more after which he sadly suffered from an attack of Colic whilst wintering in Dubai and died.

Winner number 2 was “Diffident”

The Diadem Stakes was his best win and he ended up as a top stallion in India whwre he sired both the local guineas and Oaks winners.14, the son of Nureyev is now a star stallion in India. He stands at the Poonawalla Stud, at Pune, where he has sired local Guineas and Oaks winners.

Winner number 3 was “Mark of Esteem”

When Mark Of Esteem beat Henry Cecil’s Bosra Sham in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes it made him European Racehorse of the Year and he went on to become a top stallion producing in his progeny the Derby winner Sir Percy.

Winner number 4 was “Decorated Hero”……….should have been number seven with a name like that

Decorated Hero carried top weight of 9st 13lb in the Tote Festival Handicap. He carried on racing for a further two years before moving to the British Racing School which is the training ground for other budding Frankie Dettori’s.

Winner number 5 was “Fatefully”

After taking the Rosemary Stakes, Fatefully went on to a career as a broodmare and has produced a number of top class foals and racers.

Winner number 6 was “Lochangel”……….and an Angel she was.

Lochangel scored her maiden two-year-old victory in the Blue Seal Stakes and went on to win the Nunthorpe Stakes at four. The daughter of Night Shift though has not been as good as a producer at stud as she was on the racetrack.

And the last of The Magnificent 7 was FUJIYAMA CREST

Fujiyama Crest who returned as the 2/1 fav for this race only because of Dettori’s six previous winners. The horse ran both on the flat and over hurdles and even went down the rankings racing in lower grade claimers. The horse was retired as a family pet at the home residence of Frankie Dettori

Hope you enjoyed this trip down memory lane
